Getting licenses for DVD players is tough. But a standards group may create an organization would license all of the patents necessary to make Blu-ray products.

Blu-ray, the HD optical-disc format created by Sony, definitively triumphed over the competing HD-DVD format after Toshiba’s decision last month to stop making HD-DVD players. But that doesn’t mean the HD-disc war is over, according to Sony Electronics president and chief operating officer Stan Glasgow.

HANOVER, Germany, March 5 - German shoppers seeking bargain Blu-ray video players now the format has won out over HD-DVD should not expect significant price cuts before the Christmas shopping season at the end of the year.
